DESCRIPTION:About our Private Tour:\n\nThis private tour is Saturday\, Apri
l 26 at the Fermilab facility in Batavia\, IL.\nWe will visit the [Lederma
n Science Center](http://ed.fnal.gov/lsc/index.shtml) at noon before our p
rivate tour.\nThe private tour is 2 hours long starting at 1:30 pm.\n\nThe
tour begins in Wilson Hall where we will view the Laboratory from\nthe 15
th floor windows and visit various displays located there.\nThe tour moves
to the Linear Accelerator building where we will see the\nCockcroft-Walto
n\, the components in the linear accelerator gallery and\nthe Main Control
Room.\n\nNote: Minimum age for the tour is 10 years old.\n\nAbout Fermila
b:\n\nFermilab builds and operates the accelerators\, detectors and other
facilities\nthat physicists need to carry out forefront research in high-e
nergy physics.\nFermilab is the largest high-energy physics laboratory in
the United States\,\nand is second in the world only to [CERN](http://publ
ic.web.cern.ch/public/)\, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics.\n\
nFermilab's Tevatron was the world's second-highest-energy particle accele
rator\nand collider. In the Tevatron\, counter-rotating beams of protons a
nd\nantiprotons produced collisions allowing scientists to examine the mos
t basic\nbuilding blocks of matter\, and the forces acting on them.\nParti
cle physics research has grown into an international effort\, with\nexperi
ment collaborations numbering in the hundreds.\nThe Large Hadron Collider
(LHC) at CERN is now producing collisions at seven\ntimes the energy of th
e Tevatron. More than 1\,200 U.S. scientists are involved\nin the [LHC](ht
tp://uslhc.us/) and its [experiments](http://uscms.org/).\n\nFermilab is n
ow embarking on new subatomic neutrino research.\nClick this [Fermilab You
Tube video](http://youtu.be/KxT529yRw_A) for an introduction into Fermilab
's\nnewest exciting science project\, or visit the [Fermilab Official Webs
ite](http://www.fnal.gov/).\n\nWe will be joined on this tour by members o
f the Cedar Rapids and Chicago Sections.\n\nOur trip details and logistics
from Des Moines\, IA:\nThis is a day long Saturday trip requiring driving
to and from the facility.\n\nWe are allowing 5 1/2 hours one way for the
trip from Des Moines.\nGoogle Maps shows just over 4 1/2 hours without sto
pping from Des Moines.\nIf we allow two stops en-route\, one of 15 minutes
 for fuel\, bathrooms\, etc.\nand one of 45 minutes for lunch\, fuel\, bat
hrooms etc. that would mean we need\nto leave Des Moines at 6:30 AM to get
us there by noon.\nThe drive home start time is flexible allowing arrival
back to Des Moines\nno later than 10:30 PM that evening.\nWe plan to driv
e on I-80 east\, cross the Mississippi River\nthen join Illinois toll road
I-88 to our destination.\nThis will require 3 brief stops to pay tolls to
taling $8.70 cash.\nThe individual toll stops are the Dixson plaza toll of
$3.60 cash\,\nthe Dekalb plaza toll of $3.60 cash and the Aurora plaza to
ll of $1.50 cash.\nIf you are interested in the tollway details you may go
to the\n[Illinois Tollway rates and tolls page](http://www.illinoistollwa
y.com/tolls-and-i-pass/toll-information).\n\nEach vehicle will be responsi
ble for it's own tolls.\n\nSome participants may want to stay overnight on
Saturday and some may want\nto return home Saturday evening.\nOur registr
ation form below accommodates your choices.\n\nNOTE: We have a 40 person f
irst come first served reservation limit for this tour\nbased on the date/
time your reservation is entered into our registration form below.\n\nAll
tour participants must be at least 10 years old.\n\nWe currently have met
our 40 person tour limit. Registration is closed.\n\nSpeaker(s): \, \, \,
\n\nAgenda: \nWe will contact you to make arrangements for carpooling and
further departure times\, etc.\n\n6:30 AM - Leave the Des Moines area.\n12
:00 noon - Visit the Fermilab Lederman Science Center.\n1:15 PM - Gather a
t Fermilab Wilson Hall parking lot (very near the science center)\n1:30 PM
 - Meet at reception desk in Wilson Hall for the tour start\n3:45 PM - Gat
her at Fermilab Wilson Hall parking lot after the tour\n4:00 PM - Go to Di
