DESCRIPTION:The IEEE Austin Joint Societies' Chapters of ComSoc\, Signal Pr
ocessing\, Consumer Electronics and EMBS and Computer are pleased to bring
a Virtual Distinguished Lecture event on\n\n“Cognitive Approach to Buil
ding a Safe and Smart Cities/Societies”\n\nTime:\n\n7-8:30 pm Central Ti
me\n\nLocation:\n\nZoom (Dial-in information will be provided shortly)\n\n
SPEAKER:\n\nFawzi Behmann\,\n\nPresident TelNet Management Consulting Inc.
\n\nDL\, Director of IEEE Communications Society Region and BoG Member\n\n
Abstract\n\nLayers of smartness—using technology and data—are being bu
ilt into cities to make them safer\, more efficient and sustainable. Devel
oped cities around the world are actively launching smart solutions\, whil
e new and emerging cities are integrating intelligent\, connected systems
from the start. The big cities of today may not be those of tomorrow. The
opportunities are immense—across infrastructure\, mobility\, energy\, he
althcare and beyond. Innovative technology applications and their adoption
in society offer a turning point. At its core\, the smart city is about p
eople and improving the quality of our everyday lives. The COVID-19 pandem
ic has revealed some of the shortcomings of major cities in times of crisi
s.\n\nThe talk will cover the following areas:\n\nIntro: Current state and
challenges of Smart Cities\n\n- Disruptive technologies enable building s
olid foundation for smart cities - highlights of current and future of IoT
\, 5G/6G\, Analytics (AI/ML/DP) across key markets\n- Key examples – tec
hnology convergence & adoption in new use cases in key verticals such as s
mart homes\, public safety\, autonomous driving\, healthcare\, smart energ
y and others.\n- Covid-19 accelerate return to new norm with greater innov
ation\, and end-to-end services\n\nConclusion: Adoption of disruptive tech
nologies and acceleration to a new norm that will help transition to smart
societies.\n\nKey Takeaways\n\n- Understanding the mission of smart citie
s and current situation of 50 worldwide top smart cities and impact from C
oronavirus Covid-19\n- Technology Features overview and roadmap of 4G/5G/6
G\, IoT and AI\n- Sample use cases and power of virtualization and network
 slicing\n\nBIO:\n\nFawzi is a visionary\, thought leader\, author and con
tributor in advancing adoption of technology in serving humanity. Fawzi sp
ent over 35 years in industry and held various executive and leadership po
sitions with Tier 1 companies in the areas of communications & networks sp
