DESCRIPTION:OCTOBER MEETING - COMPUTER SOCIETY PIKES PEAK CHAPTER - QUANTUM
COMPUTING TUTORIAL PART 1 OF 2\n\nRegistration is required\, WebEx creden
tials will be emailed 48 hours in advance to all registered attendees.\n\n
This is part one of two tutorials on Quantum Computing by Dr. Trung T. Pha
m\, from the Department of Computer Science at USAFA. The first part will
be in October and the 2nd part will be the subject of our November meeting
.\n\nThe first session will be an Introduction to Quantum Computing and in
November the topic will be an Application of Quantum Memory\n\nSession De
tails:\n\nIn the first session in October is an Introduction to Quantum Co
mputing\, basic concepts of using quantum bits to represent analog data is
presented\, with the logical operators traditionally developed for binary
data being extended to process quantum bits of data. These operators will
serve as guidelines for hardware developers to design basic quantum compu
ting units that can be combined into a complex quantum computer.\n\nThe se
cond session in November will focus on developing a specific Application f
or Quantum Memory to hold data in a superimposing fashion so that an infin
ite amount of data can be stored without ever running out of memory space.
The application is a concept in evolution\, developed for storing digital
images into the memory bank consisting of many quantum bits. Instead of u
sing the traditional concept of data storage in a digital computer where a
block of memory is used to store only one set of data and afterward this
block is reserved so that no further storing is possible\, this applicatio
n proposes to use the same block of quantum memory to store new data repea
tedly and indefinitely. Thus\, algorithms for storing and retrieving data
are developed\, and numerical simulations are presented to demonstrates th
e workability of the concept.\n\nThe Speaker\n\nDr. Trung T. Pham obtained
 his BSEE\, MS\, and Ph.D. from Rice University in Houston\, Texas\, and h
is MBA from the University of Houston\, also in Houston\, Texas.\n\nHe is
with the Cyberworx and Department of Computer Science of the United States
Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs\, Colorado\, USA. Previously he wor
ked at NASA Johnson Space Center\, The University of Houston\, and the Uni
versity of Talca. His research interest includes artificial intelligence\,
 computational algorithms\, cryptology\, data mining\, image processing\,
and system modeling.\n\nDr. Trung is a Senior Member of the Institute of E
lectronic & Electrical Engineering (IEEE)\, Senior Member of the Internati
onal Society of Automation (ISA). Previously he served as Vice-Chair of th
e Galveston Bay Section of the IEEE\, and currently\, he serves as a membe
r of the Executive Committee of the Pikes Peak Section of the IEEE.\n\nDat
