DESCRIPTION:Description: Data modernization with data lake on cloud hands-o
n training was organized by IEEE WIE Lahore Section and hosted by IEEE WIE
UCP Student Branch on 8th January\, 2020. This workshop was started with
the recitation of the Holy Quran. Then our honourable Guest Speaker Mr. Sa
ad Mahmood took the stage and discussed the related topic. He gave the con
cept of modernization of data on data lakes with the help of cloud. He sai
d that Data lakes based on Hadoop technologies have proved themselves valu
able in mission-critical use cases such as data warehousing\, advanced ana
lytics\, multichannel marketing\, complete customer views\, digital supply
chains\, and the modernization of data management.\n\nHe added that most
Hadoop users are committed to the data lake method of managing data\, but
they are limited by Hadoop shortcomings in key areas such as cluster maint
enance\, administration cost\, resource management\, metadata management\,
and support for SQL and other relational technologies. Many view cloud-ba
sed solutions as the optimal replacement for their data lake\, but they ar
e not ready to make such a significant change. The truth is: they don't ha
ve to\, as the two technologies can coexist.\n\nIn this workshop\, student
s learnt about:\n\n- Data lakes: what they are and what they can do for yo
ur organization\n- Real-world use cases for data lakes in data warehousing
\, analytics\, self-service data practices\, and operations\n- The origin
of Hadoop data lakes: why some are on relational databases and others are
on multiple platforms\n- Why the cloud is becoming the preferred platform\
n- How Hadoop's limitations affect data lake success\n- How the benefits o
f cloud technologies apply to data lakes?\n- Statistics about Hadoop\, dat
a lakes\, and cloud adoption and migration\n- Future directions for data l
akes including multi platform architectures\, hybrid lakes\, virtual lakes
\, and relational lakes\n\nAt the end of the session\, a souvenir was pres
ented to the guest speaker and he was also entertained by refreshment\, wh
ich was arranged by IEEE UCP Student branch.\n\nImpact of Event on Communi
