 tors (SMRs) are well-aligned with global desire to reduce our carbon footp
 rint. Both smaller in size and in energy output\, SMRs are considered idea
 l for deployment both on-grid and off-grid in remote locations such as min
 e sites or the oil sands\, as well as willing communities in northern Cana
 da reliant on diesel-fuelled generators for electricity. In addition\, the
 se technologies can also be utilized in other industrial applications such
  as production of hydrogen\, local area heating\, or other industrial heat
  applications. Currently\, SMRs are an emerging technology. There are a wi
 de variety of designs being developed by multiple prospective reactor vend
 ors\, each working hard to bring their technology to market\n\nThis webina
 r will provide participants with an introduction to SMRs\, covering the fu
 ndamental features of the technology\, and an overview of the most popular
  designs proposed to date. The webinar will also include a discussion on t
 he economics of SMRs – how they are expected to compete in the global en

 rs:\n\nDr. Metin Yetisir is a Principal Scientist at Canadian Nuclear Labo
 ratories (CNL). He has been involved in various research activities relate
 d to nuclear industry for over 30 years. Metin received his Masters and Ph
 D degrees from McMaster University\, Hamilton\, Ontario\, in Mechanical En
 gineering. After two years at Hatch Associates as a thermalhydraulics spec
 ialist\, he joined Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) at Chalk River L
 aboratories. He has since worked at AECL (now CNL) at various capacities o
 n steam generators\, feeder cracking\, fatigue of Class I piping\, heat tr
 ansfer degradation of CANDU primary heat transport system\, small modular 
 reactors (SMR) and advanced reactors. More recently\, Dr. Yetisir played a
  key role in developing Canada’s Generation IV supercritical water-coole
 d reactor concept and holds three patents on the core design of the Canadi
 an SCWR. He was the technical lead of CNL’s Small Modular Reactors progr
 am from 2013 to 2017\, acted as the Advanced Reactors Program Manager\, pr
 ovided input in developing CNL’s S&amp;T programs on small modular reactors 
 (SMR) and represented Canada in international (IAEA and GIF) meetings on a
 dvanced reactors and SMRs. Metin has been a key member of the organising c
 ommittees of a number of conferences on small and advanced reactors\, incl
 uding the International Generation IV and Small Reactors Conference\, the 
 Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS) Annual conference and the Pacific Basin Nuc
 lear Conference. For his contributions to nuclear industry in Canada and t
 o CNS\, he is named to be a “Fellow of Canadian Nuclear Society” in 20
 20. Metin authored more than 70 conference papers\, 11 journal papers and 
 has 4 patents related to nuclear reactors and components. He was featured

 inYetisir) and authored the “SMRs: The Case of Canada” chapter of the 
 second edition of [Handbook of Small Modular Nuclear Reactors](https://www

 -0-12-823916-2).\n\nDenys Elliot graduated from the University of Waterloo
  with a Masters in Political Economics in 2015. In 2016 he joined Canadian
  Nuclear Laboratories as a member of the Business Development team. In ear
 ly 2020\, Denys took over the role of Commercial Lead for CNL’s Small Mo
 dular Reactor (SMR) Program. In this role\, Denys serves as the primary po
 int of contact between CNL and SMR vendors for the establishment of commer
 cial research and development contracts that advance SMR technologies towa
 rds deployment. Denys is also responsible for the administration of CNL’
 s Canadian Nuclear Research Initiative - a CNL program to support collabor
 ative Advanced Reactor (AR) research projects with third-party proponents 
 in Canada. The goal of the program is to accelerate the deployment of safe
 \, secure\, clean\, and cost effective ARs in Canada. Denys is a long-time
  supporter of nuclear energy\, and was a founding committee member of the 
 North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) Chalk River Chapter. De
 nys currently serves as the Advocacy and Education Chair for NAYGN Chalk R
 iver\, organizing social events\, webinars\, and conferences on a variety 
 of topics within the nuclear energy industry.\n\nMegan Moore began working
  for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (formally Atomic Energy Of Canada Ltd) 
 in 2013. As an Operations Research Analyst she has tackled a wide variety 
 of projects\; developing expertise in nuclear economics\, hybrid energy sy
 stems and nuclear fuel cycles. Megan is currently a co-chair of the Genera
 tion IV International Forum Economic and Modelling Working Group\, and con
 tinues to study Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) to better understand the pot
 ential impact of SMRs in Canada\, focusing on economics and sustainability
 . Currently Megan is leading several projects\, including one that is stud
 ying how nuclear reactors could be integrated with renewable energy source
 s such as wind and solar\, in a hybrid energy system\, to improve access t
