DESCRIPTION:New Technologies\, Ethics and Policy Engagement for Sustainable
Development is a new series conceived by IEEE TechEthics and UN-DESA as a
way to facilitate and share technology solutions and promote substantive
discussions among government officials and technologists. Each of these ha
lf-day\, virtual events will focus on a theme related to the UN Sustainabl
e Development Goals and will engage policy makers\, engineers\, legal expe
rts\, ethicists\, social scientists\, and others in discussions about new
technologies and their related societal impacts\, as well as provide infor
mation on opportunities to become directly involved in ongoing activity an
d debate on the theme.\n\nCo-sponsored by: IEEE New Technologies\, TechEth
ics\, UN\n\nAgenda: \n< New Technology Presentations >\n10:00AM-11:30AM (i
ncluding opening remarks)\nWhat are some of the most promising new and eme
rging technologies for health and human well-being? What is their developm
ent and demonstration status? What remains to be done? What scale of inves
tment is needed? This session features presentations by leading technologi
sts addressing these key questions and more. The presentations will be fol
lowed by a moderated discussion and Q&A session.\n\n< BREAK >\n11:30AM-11:
45AM\n\n< Ethical\, Legal and Policy Considerations >\n11:45AM-12:45PM\nIn
order for technology to benefit humanity it needs to be universally avail
able and accepted. Part of moving technology into widespread use is to add
ress any ethical\, legal and policy-related concerns that might arise. Thi
s panel discussion will address some of the key considerations of new and
emerging technologies for health and human well-being.\n\n< BREAK >\n12:45
PM-1:15PM\n\n< Engagement Opportunities and Policy Debate Roundtable >\n1:
15PM-2:00PM\nThis roundtable session will provide information on how atten
dees can get engaged in the UN and its policy debates on technologies for
health and human well-being\, as well as similar engagement opportunities
across various parts of IEEE.\n\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m
