DESCRIPTION:Reference: https://blockchain.ieee.org/about/\n\nBlockchain is
more than cryptocurrency\, it is a technological foundation to a new way o
f conducting transactions\, securing networks\, and recording the validity
and origin of data. Blockchain will allow a new perspective on how humans
interact with society's challenges\; touching upon everything from conduc
ting financial transactions\, energy trading\, carbon emission trading\, a
ccess to healthcare records\, to the protection of the valued assets of co
rporations and nation states. IEEE Blockchain is currently exploring the a
pplication of blockchain and related technologies across several verticals
and aims to address the many challenges and opportunities that arise.\n\n
Blockchain technologies have shown exceptional value for distributed opera
tions involving individualized control of digital assets\, and provide exc
eptional promise to improve privacy and security. The IEEE Blockchain Init
iative will explore the use of blockchains for alignment of common complia
nce requirements such as the European Union General Data Protection Regula
tion (GDPR)\, and best practices from leading industry methods. The primar
y objective will be to provide privacy and security for individual citizen
s distributed across the digital world. Blockchains could provide a new pa
radigm where individualized privacy and security controls will allow every
individual creator/owner to maintain control over their data assets.\n\nT
his presentation will focus on Privacy and Security. One of the most criti
cal and challenging issues of the technological era is protection of priva
te and sensitive data and physical computing assets. IEEE is exploring the
use of blockchain distributed ledger applications to implement global pri
vacy and security solutions. The use of blockchains to integrate these goa
ls will revolutionize privacy and security\, and enable practices to be un
iformly distributed and applied across different organizations\, applicati
ons\, and industries. Potential benefits include the ability to individual
ize privacy controls for data creators\, to create uniform security contro
ls for distributed physical and digital assets\, to appropriately balance
data privacy and transparency\, and to manage logistics for audit and comp
liance with regulations such as GDPR.\n\nThe IEEE Blockchain Initiative wi
ll address this rapidly evolving area to leverage the momentum in existing
community projects\, and efforts started by socially-responsible legislat
ion and regulations.\n\nThrough podcasts\, virtual keynotes\, and industry
 forums\, digitally-curated poster competitions\, globally-connected colla
borations on standards\, and publications\, the Initiative will deliver ac
tionable discussions concerning all aspects of security and privacy. This
forum will support and contribute to community development and public work
ing groups worldwide to implement forward-looking prototypes\, proof-of-co
ncept platforms\, and actionable recommendations.\n\nSpeaker(s): Christoph
