DESCRIPTION:Project management is the process of leading the work of a team
to complete a project.\n\nProjects are temporary endeavors designed to pr
oduce a unique product\, service or result with a defined beginning and en
d\; and undertaken to meet unique goals and objectives\, typically to brin
g about beneficial business change or added value.\n\nBased on these defin
itions\, it is evident that Engineers are perfectly suited to become proje
ct managers because engineering is defined as the use of scientific princi
ples to design and build projects: machines\, structures and other product
s and services utilizing both applied mathematics and applied science.\n\n
Careers in project management are plentiful when one notes it is also a tr
ansferable skill outside of Engineering.\n\nOther industries that use proj
 ect management include construction\, manufacturing\, architecture\, and r
eal estate development.\n\nProject managers also work in finance\, informa
tion technology\, and internet companies\, where they coordinate the devel
opment and implementation of new applications or manage new site launches.
 \n\nPresenter Bio:\n\nClaudia Gomez-Villeneuve is a professional engineer
who spent nearly 16 years working in oil pipeline project design and const
ruction.\n\nFor the last 4 years she has been a university instructor in m
ultiple countries specializing in Engineering and Project Management cours
es.\n\nClaudia is the Founder of WES\, Women in Engineering Summit\, in Ed
monton and Calgary\, with the next one taking place online on Friday\, Jun
e 18\, 2021.\n\nShe is also an elected member of Council for APEGA\, the A
ssociation or Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta\, an org
anization with approximately 77\,000 members.\n\nClaudia credits her under
graduate and graduate studies in project management with shaping her caree
r: first\, by helping her land a great job after graduation\, and second\,
by allowing her now to teach project management at both the University an
 d Corporate levels.\n\nCalgary\, Alberta\, Canada\, Virtual: https://event
