DESCRIPTION:This presentation covers two important aspects of HF (high freq
uency) communications: the modulation types most commonly used for HF comm
unications as well as the fundamentals of HF propagation.\n\nModulation ty
pes covered in this presentation include both double-sideband AM and singl
e-sideband as well as narrowband FM. For digital modes\, the use of amplit
ude shift keying (ASK) and frequency shift keying (FSK) is also discussed.
\n\nThe propagation portion of this webinar starts with a general introduc
tion to HF and the main HF propagation modes (direct wave/line of sight\,
ground or surface wave\, and skywave). Since skywave is the most unique an
d widely used HF propagation mode\, an introduction to the ionosphere and
the characteristics of the different ionospheric layers is then provided\,
followed by a discussion of unusual ionospheric events and an overview of
the different ways in which the state of the ionosphere can be quantified
.\n\nThe presentation concludes with a short summary and a question and an
swers session.\n\nFor login information and password\, please register by
