DESCRIPTION:In this talk we will show how visible light positioning (VLP) u
sing lighting LEDs can become the all-purpose indoor positioning system of
the future. We will show how our patented QADA-Plus system can estimate y
our position within a few centimetres and is also small enough to be incor
porated within future mobile phones.\n\nGPS has become an invaluable and u
biquitous aspect of daily life. But GPS doesn’t work reliably indoors an
d despite decades of research on RF wireless solutions no ideal indoor sys
tem has emerged. The widespread introduction of LED lighting means that VL
P is possible. LEDs unlike conventional lighting can transmit high data ra
te information because they can be modulated at high frequencies. In the l
ast few years many VLP systems have been described using either photodiode
s or cameras as receivers. Our new hybrid receiver incorporates both photo
diodes and a camera and so combines the data rates of photodiodes with the
accuracy of a camera.\n\nSpeaker(s): Professor Jean Armstrong \, Dr Stef
