DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the [SPS Seasonal School](https://signalprocessingso
ciety.org/blog/2021-ieee-sps-seasonal-school-signal-processing-and-communi
cation-systems-5g) on Signal Processing and Communication Systems for 5G.
The jointly\, internationally\, organized by IEEE Vizag Bay Section [Commu
nications Society & SPS](https://r10.ieee.org/vizagbay/) Joint Chapter\, V
izag\, India\, IEEE Long Island Section ([SPS](http://www.ieee.li/sp)) Cha
pter\, New York\, USA\, and IEEE [Finland SP/CAS](https://site.ieee.org/fi
nland/) Chapter\, Finland presents the following technical lecture:\n\nAbs
tract:\n\nComputer vision and machine learning technology have advanced co
nsiderably in the past few years and are now being fused together to creat
e a Smarter World of solutions that will soon improve our lives. For examp
le\, collectively retail stores lose billions of dollars annually\, the Na
tional Retail Federation estimates that it was up to $60B in 2019. From Sm
art Cities to Factories\, Hospitals and Buildings\, our world is experienc
ing an explosion of computational power being applied to real-time video a
nalytics. Imagine a missing child is spotted by a SmartCity application an
d returned to their parents. In a hospital setting\, the application monit
oring the cameras in patient’s room alerts the staff to a critical situa
tion minutes or even seconds earlier. However\, the entire end-to-end pipe
line needs to be built for supporting low latency and low power for the ed
ge where Smart city applications reside. Wireless 5G networks provide the
fabric on which the video and AI/ML-driven computations and results travel
. With latency targets for these smart technologies in the 10s of millisec
onds\, no other broadband network is up to the task. ML and video\, combin
ed with 5G\, are making the Smart City solution deployable and more cost e
ffective. In this presentation\, we will discuss what technologies are ava
ilable to build the optimal Smart City solutions and what the differences
are.\n\nSpeaker(s): Dr. Seong Hwan Kim \, \n\nVirtual: https://events.vtoo
