DESCRIPTION:The IEEE Chattanooga PES Chapter is partnering with the Chattan
ooga Engineers Club\, SWE Chattanooga\, and Million Women Mentors Tennesse
e to hear about an utility's experience with AC interference between pipel
ines and power lines. In this talk the speaker describes engineering studi
es done for a major natural gas pipeline upgrade in an urban area in share
d corridors with Utility’s HV and EHV lines. The speaker will describe a
probabilistic approach to pipeline safety implemented by BC Hydro\, as we
ll as the current state of the pipeline and powerline electrical coordinat
ion standards used in North America.\n\nMažana Armstrong is the Senior Ma
nager of the High Power Lab at Powertech Labs\, a subsidiary of BC Hydro.
She has 25 years of professional experience in operations\, maintenance\,
design and testing of high voltage electric power systems\, specifically e
lectrical aspects of 69 kV to 500 kV transmission systems. At Powertech\,
Mazana leads the High Power Lab specialized in evaluation\, verification a
nd certification testing of medium and high voltage equipment to support m
anufacturers\, power utilities and other industrial users of electrical eq
uipment\, as well as providing R&D and consulting services to the utility
industry.\n\nPrior to coming to Powertech\, Mažana was a Specialist Engin
eer for Overhead Transmission Lines at BC Hydro\, specializing in electric
al aspects of transmission line design\, operation and maintenance includi
ng electrical coordination and joint use of transmission right of ways. Ma
žana holds an M.Sc.\, and a Ph.D.\, in Electrical Engineering from the Un
iversity of British Columbia\, and is a registered Professional Engineer w
ith the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia. Mazana is activel
y involved in leadership roles with IEEE Power and Energy Society and she
is an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer.\n\nWebex meeting invite will be sent on
