DESCRIPTION:“Girls Make STEM with Heart”\, the IEEE Buenaventura fall S
TEM event for middle-school girls\, will be on Saturday\, October 9 at La
Reina High School in Thousand Oaks. If you were involved in the 2019 event
\, you know what a wonderful experience it was for the students\, parents\
, and volunteers. If you were not involved\, here is some background:\n\n
 • Over 100 students attended eight different workshops covering programm
 ing\, chemistry\, electronics modules\, robotics\, solar energy\, virtual
reality\, and wearables.\n• We had at least two mentors per workshop. Ea
ch student was able to get plenty of attention.\n• Parents attended a se
parate program that covered topics such as careers in STEM\, how the young
brain develops\, and cybersecurity.\n• At the end of the day\, students
got to show what they learned to their parents.\n• La Reina graciously
let us use their classrooms and cafeteria. Each classroom is equipped with
a computer projector\, movable tables and chairs\, and Wi-Fi connectivity
.\n• Lunch and materials are provided by IEEE.\n• See our Facebook pag
 e for [photos](https://www.ieee-bv.org/report/2019-10-stem-photo) and [vid
 eos](https://www.ieee-bv.org/report/2019-10-stem-video) of the 2019 event.
