DESCRIPTION:Abstract\n\nMost mass transit rail systems operate using high p
ower DC sources to power the operating trains carrying passengers. The DC
power is supplied by what are called DC Traction Power Substations (TPSS).
These specialised substations have the necessary equipment to safely and
reliably convert incoming AC power into outgoing DC power to feed the rail
system. This webinar discusses the basic power equipment elements\, appli
cable industry standards as well as industry practices applied to DC Tract
ion Power Substations found across North America with a focus on Light Rai
l DC Traction Power Substations. This topic is interesting as it provides
a basic understanding of the design behind the DC power supply for Light r
ail trains as more projects are being design and built in Canada and aroun
d the world.\n\n"Fine Print"\n\n- The webinar is free for active IEEE memb
ers.\n- There is a $5 registration fee for people who are not active IEEE
members.\n\n- The fee must be paid in advance through the registration pro
cess below (credit card through PayPal) in order to receive the link to th
e webinar.\n- Upon successful payment of the fee\, you will receive 2 emai
ls: one from noreply_vtools@ieee.org with title "IEEE vTools Reservation C
onfirmation\," and a second from service@intl.paypal.com with title "Your
payment to The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers\, Inc." B
oth emails are required to ensure your payment was successfully processed.
\n- Incomplete non-member registrations (payment not received) will be del
eted.\n- A link to the WebEx registration will be sent to the email addres
s you provided during this vTools registration\, on September 20th\, by "I
EEE Northern Alberta". Please double check the spelling of your email addr
ess when registering.\n- The mechanism used to email the WebEx link requir
es you to accept the IEEE Privacy Policy and consent to receiving emails f
rom IEEE. If you have not opted-in to receive email communications from IE
EE\, or have opted-out of email communications from IEEE in the past\, you
might not receive the email containing the WebEx link. IEEE members can
go to https://www.ieee.org/ieee-privacyportal/app/ibp and ensure that "Loc

ences > Member Benefits. Former members and non members who opted-out of e
mail communications in the past can contact the [IEEE Support Center](http
