DESCRIPTION:Program for Wednesday\, September 22nd\, 2021:\n\n» 11:45 Webi
nar open\n» 12:00 IEEE South Alberta announcements\n» 12:05 Presentation
\n» 13:15 Q&A\n» 13:30 Webinar close\n\nSummary\n\nThe webinar will intr
oduce the basic principles of input power quality issues related to VSDs w
ith various topologies utilized in LV and MV VSD’s designs commonly used
in the oil field industry. The input power quality issues (system side po
wer quality) will be investigated: line-side voltage & current harmonics\,
voltage input range and regulation\, voltage disturbance (transients\, sa
gs\, swells\, interruptions)\, voltage waveform notching. Special attentio
n will be given to system grounding methods and equipment grounding. The p
resentation also considers the impact of the VSD on increased generator lo
ading\, reduced power factor\, and overheating of cables and transformers.
Present day solutions based on input filtering will be described. It will
be shown these input power quality issues will increase equipment failure
\, or at least tripping of equipment\, as well as increasing operating cos
ts. The webinar will include filter design techniques reviewing various in
put drive harmonic mitigation solutions such as line reactors (chokes)\, p
hase-shifting drive transformers\, and drive input filters (passive or act
ive). A variety of real-world examples will be shared to illustrate these
concepts\, symptoms and solutions.\n\n"Fine Print"\n\n- The webinar is fre
e for active IEEE members.\n- There is a $5 registration fee for people wh
o are not active IEEE members.\n\n- The fee must be paid in advance throug
h the registration process below (credit card through PayPal) in order to
receive the link to the webinar.\n- Upon successful payment of the fee\, y
ou will receive 2 emails: one from noreply_vtools@ieee.org with title "IEE
E vTools Reservation Confirmation\," and a second from service@intl.paypal
.com with title "Your payment to The Institute of Electrical and Electroni
cs Engineers\, Inc." Both emails are required to ensure your payment was s
uccessfully processed.\n- Incomplete non-member registrations (payment not
received) will be deleted.\n- A link to the WebEx registration will be se
nt to the email address you provided during this vTools registration by "I
EEE Southern Alberta". Please double check the spelling of your email addr
ess when registering.\n- The mechanism used to email the WebEx link requir
es you to accept the IEEE Privacy Policy and consent to receiving emails f
rom IEEE. If you have not opted-in to receive email communications from IE
EE\, or have opted-out of email communications from IEEE in the past\, you
might not receive the email containing the WebEx link. IEEE members can
go to https://www.ieee.org/ieee-privacyportal/app/ibp and ensure that "Loc
al IEEE Communications" is checked under the category Communication Prefer
ences > Member Benefits. Former members and non members who opted-out of e
mail communications in the past can contact the [IEEE Support Center](http
s://supportcenter.ieee.org/) to find out how to adjust their email communi
cation preferences.\n- You will need to complete the brief WebEx event reg
istration prior to joining the webinar\, a link will be sent to your email
by messenger@webex.com. Please check the Junk folder before join the even
t.\n\nCo-sponsored by: Eaton Electrical Services & Systems\n\nSpeaker(s):
