DESCRIPTION:Monday\, September 13\, 2021\n\nIEEE Consultants’ Network of
San Diego\n\nTopic: “Patent Eligibility of Software”\n\nSpeaker:\n\nRo
 b Cogan\, Continuum Law\n\nAbstract\n\n“Patent eligibility” is critica
lly important for software inventions. The 2014 Supreme Court case Alice C
orp. v. CLS Bank International held that putting an old method on a comput
er would not make it patentable. This decision turned the world of compute
r-related inventions on its head because it created so many ambiguities. S
ince then\, several more Supreme Court decisions and carefully crafted set
s of guidelines from the Patent Office have provided some clarification. T
oday’s rules are equally applicable to complex software as to game apps.
A better understanding of patent eligibility goes hand-in-hand with a bet
ter understanding of value. We will also touch on such matters as whom to
name as the inventor of a program generated by artificial intelligence\, c
opyright ownership of code\, and working as a software consultant.\n\nSpea
 ker(s): Rob Cogan\, \n\nAgenda: \nThis meeting will be held online.\n\nSan
