DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\n\nThe Electric power industry continues to transform
  at an accelerating rate. Demand for bundled load is on decline which dire
 ctly affects the supply side. Cascading failures present severe threats to
  power grid reliability and security.\n\nResilient grid is a paradigm shif
 t which requires a new line of thinking in the engineering\, infrastructur
 e\, managing reliable operation and maintenance of the grid. The importanc
 e of modern electricity grid for sustainable delivery of reliable\, commun
 icative\, and high-quality electricity is paramount.\n\n- Characteristics 
 and behavior of the system are changing. Renewable energy source (RES) int
 ermittency has introduced challenges in dispatching mix impacting load for
 ecasting\, voltage spikes\, frequency excursions\, and cyclic operation of
  thermal plants.\n\n- Balancing energy sources to efficiency operate the g
 rid\, minimize exposure to cascading events and need for oscillatory stabi
 lity management are amongst key operational objectives.\n\n- Timely detect
 ion\, mitigation and prevention of cascades of disturbances are of signifi
 cant importance. Root causes from outage propagation of the blackouts\, an
 d key lessons from recent events can be leveraged to further enhance the S
 tandards and avoid mistakes of others. Importance of advanced applications
  of synchrophasor technology\, for better detection\, alarming\, and mitig
 ation of oscillations and cascading outages are key.\n\n- The need for tim
 ing precision\, new protection\, automation\, and operational solutions ha
 ve become vital. Advanced simulation tools are needed to thoroughly simula
 te solutions for deployment for dynamic operating conditions. New solution
 s including topologies\, algorithms\, and deployment strategies are needed
 .\n\nAn evolving environment requires a transformed grid. The need for new
  robust and well tested solutions never been more acute. Advancements in A
 rtificial Intelligence have helped in growth and in acceptance of digital 
 platforms\, and more efficient energy-management. When properly implemente
 d\, advanced portfolio of sensors\, timing technologies\, services and sol
 utions enable us to build more reliable systems supporting today’s needs
  and future autonomous grids.\n\nThis lecture will cover energy and techno
 logy transformation\, practical examples of dynamic operating system encou
 nters in hybrid systems\, cascading and oscillatory stability management t
 ools and practices\, root causes from outage propagation of major blackout
 s and related lessons\, and solutions to manage operational aspects of the
