Ruhuna\n\n“IEEE Adawwa” is an event which was organized by the IEEE St
udent branch\, University of Ruhuna. The event was held on 09th of October
at 04.00pm via zoom platform and Facebook platform. Students from a lot o
f universities joined to the event. The event was a huge success with 284
total participants in Facebook live stream and 226 total participants in z
oom platform. It was an awareness session\, which was organized to make th
e participants aware of the values of gaining IEEE membership. And also\,
there was a session about lifelong learning. There were two guest speakers
who joined with us.\n\n- Chamika Sudusinghe: He is a final year undergrad
uate from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of University
of Moratuwa. Currently\, he is serving as the secretary of IEEE Region 10
Student Activities Committee. Furthermore\, he was the Student Representa
tive of IEEE Sri Lanka for the term 2020/21. Chamika has been an active vo
lunteer of IEEE since 2017 and was part of many of the projects that were
carried at both the university level and national level. He became the fir
st IEEE student volunteer in Sri Lanka to win the Richard E. Merwin Studen
t Scholarship award for his volunteering accomplishments.\n\nFirst\, he as
ked the participants to raise a hand if they are totally new to IEEE. And
then he described what is IEEE society which included sharing knowledge ab
out regions of IEEE\, and IEEE in Sri Lanka. And then he talked about IEEE
student branches in Sri Lanka. Furthermore\, he discussed about the Compe
titions\, Awards\, Events\, and scholarships given by the IEEE society and
then he discussed about the membership and Why volunteering for IEEE over
the years matters …etc. Then he shared his experience of IEEE with us a
nd talked about how it connects with leadership\, Experience\, Crisis mana
gement. By talking about IEEE values and his experience with IEEE he motiv
ated the participants to join with IEEE. In his Q and A session a particip
ant asked about the values of the IEEE certificate then he answered by say
ing how important to have an IEEE certificate not only valid in our countr
y but in other countries as well.\n\n- Sahan Ranwala: He is a well-known a
ctor in Sri Lankan cinema\, stage drama and television. And also\, he work
s as a musician\, composer and a presenter. He is the managing director of
Lionel Ranwala Folk Art Foundation\n\nFirst\, he talked about the importa
nce of changing the attitudes of people for good. He discussed how people
complain about the work they must do and doing them unhappily affects the
mental health.\n\nThen he did an exercise told us to close our eyes and to
ld us to imagine drawing an apple in an A4 sheet. Then discussed about how
each of us drawn the apple\, all imagined drawing it in the middle of the
A4 sheet and the apple was red\, leaf is green and then he told all of us
were trained from our childhood to think in a same way. Then he proved it
again by doing another exercise. He asked us to think about a number whic
h includes 3 digits\, then told us to take the sum of those 3 digits\, the
n told us to subtract the sum from the number we imagined\, then he told s
ome of the participants to tell 2 numbers of the subtracted value after th
at he guessed the 3-rd. number. Then once again he proved the fact that we
all are trained to think in a same way from our childhood.\n\nAfter that
he shared his experiences with us World tours\, competitions\, his studies
…etc. He told us not to stop learning when we reach the goal. He told u
s to dream more without ignoring education. Then he talked about his theor
y of making his life successful which is 6Es such as Environment\, Educati
 on\, Economy\, Entertainment\, Entrepreneurship\, Eating (Which he means t
he importance of health). Finally\, he asked us to stay updated always.\n\
nIn his Q and A session a participant asked about how he manage his time.
Then he told us about how he always chooses to work hard but with the peop
le he loves to spend time with and does not make him tired by working with
them. At last\, a participant asked him as for university undergraduate w
hat is his advice for all the participants\, then he asked us not to stop
working. Always work hard because he believes in “people who works hard
are the people who are successful”. With that he ended his session.\n\nA
