DESCRIPTION:Technical Considerations for Offshore Wind Interconnection\n\nD
 ate: THURSDAY\, November 4TH\, 2021\n\nPlace: WEB - ON-LINE TECHNICAL SEMI
NAR – See Link Below and in Flyer\n\nAbstract:\n\nLarge quantities of of
fshore wind are expected to be constructed along the East Coast of the U.S
.\, in an electric power grid undergoing substantial transformation. Offsh
ore wind energy has great potential and exhibits a strong capacity factor
as a variable energy resource. These offshore wind power plants will be di
scussed\, highlighting aspects unique to the offshore infrastructure\, inc
luding electrical design considerations and main equipment of HVAC and HVD
C transmission export systems.\n\nThe control and operation of these wind
farms have a multitude of considerations\, which bring about dynamic coord
ination needs and potential control interaction challenges. With weaker sy
stem conditions\, performance of voltage-source converters under high-pene
tration levels will be discussed. Aspects of power quality and multi-frequ
ency stability will be introduced\, and modeling limitations will be discu
ssed\, introducing the need for electromagnetic transient (EMT) level mode
ling for integration evaluation.\n\nSpeaker(s): David Roop\, Adam Sparacin
