DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Examples of distributed and networked systems are man
y in society\, such as in manufacturing and oil & gas facilities. The safe
ty and security of these systems are of paramount importance. This seminar
covers different theoretical concepts for developing control and monitori
ng methods for distributed and networked systems. It addresses control sys
tem setups and focuses on the associated modelling frameworks and design p
rocedures. The seminar also covers different approaches for building resil
ient distributed and networked systems with respect to abnormality scenari
os\, such as faults and cyber attacks.\n\nBiography: Ahmad W. Al-Dabbagh i
s an Assistant Professor and a Principal’s Research Chair in Control Sys
tems with the School of Engineering at the University of British Columbia\
, in Kelowna\, BC (https://olcsr.ok.ubc.ca). His research interests relate
to fault diagnosis\, cyber security\, and alarm management. Dr. Al-Dabbag
h received his PhD degree in Control Systems from the University of Albert
a\, and held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Alberta\, Unive
rsity of Toronto\, and Imperial College London. He also has more than thre
e years of industrial work experience in design\, development\, and commis
sioning of control\, monitoring\, and automation solutions. He was a recip
ient of many competitive scholarships and awards\, including an NSERC Post
