DESCRIPTION:Seminar\n\nRecent Developments in the Science and Application o
 f Metamaterials\n\nProf. Ashwin K. Iyer\nUniversity of Alberta\, Canada\n\
 nDate: 3 December\, 2021\nTime: 10:00 am to 11:00 am (Hong Kong\, UTC+8:00
 )\nVenue: Online\nRegistration link: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/event/
register/291019\n\nAbstract\nThe spectacular early growth of metamaterials
research was fueled by fantastic ideas like invisibility and subdiffracti
on imaging. These ideas\, however\, are just manifestations of a much more
tangible and exciting concept: that metamaterials and metasurfaces afford
unprecedented control over electromagnetic waves. Our group at the Univer
sity of Alberta is focused on the theoretical understanding and experiment
al validation of new metamaterial phenomena\, with a view to leveraging me
tamaterial-enabled functionalities in applications across the electromagne
tic spectrum. In this talk\, I will describe a few of our discoveries in a
ntenna and waveguide miniaturization\, novel sensors\, and new mechanisms
of imaging and wave manipulation using metasurfaces.\n\nCo-sponsored by: T
echical Sponsor: State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves (C
ity University of Hong Kong)\n\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/
