DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Emanuel Serban to learn the high performance gate-driv
er power supply for renewable energy and energy storage converters!\n\nPRE
SENTATION SUMMARY\n\nResearchers and designers are often confronted with m
ultiple variables when pursuing one key design goal: optimized and cost-ef
fective converter design for high performance. This talk will review the r
equirements of gate-drive technology in solar photovoltaics\, energy stora
ge applications\, and the electric vehicle market. Soft-switching techniqu
es have been proposed in power converters (>1kW) to achieve high-efficienc
y levels (>98%). However\, less emphasis has been given to low power conve
rters (e.g. < 10W). A new resonant converter structure is proposed which f
eatures an integrated planar transformer. Finally\, this power supply desi
gn provides an attractive gate-drive solution to GaN\, SiC\, or silicon-ba
sed power devices for high-performance system operation.\n\nSpeaker(s): Dr
