DESCRIPTION:This course provides an introduction and overview of alarm mana
gement. We will review a history of alarm management published standards A
NSI/ISA18.2\, Management of Alarm Systems for the Process Industries\, and
the IEC version\, IEC62682 of the same name.\n\nThe course will provide a
n introduction to what are standards and how they are used by regulatory b
odies. In addition\, the course will cover the importance of alarm managem
ent and review several significant industry incidents in which casual fact
ors were due to poor alarm management.\n\nThe alarm management lifecycle f
rom ISA18.2 and IEC62682 will be introduced and the parts of the lifecycle
will be covered. These activities include alarm philosophy development\,
 alarm rationalization\, basic alarm design\, advanced alarm techniques\, H
MI design for alarms\, monitoring\, assessment\, management of change\, an
d audit. We will discuss the entry points to the lifecycle for starting al
arm management improvement projects.\n\nFinally\, we will discuss key alar
m management references for you to utilize in your alarm management improv
ement projects.\n\nParticipants will learn about the standards for alarm m
anagement and the lifecycle and how they address the common problems of al
arm systems.\n\nKey benefits of this course include:\n\n- Learning about t
he alarm management standards and how standard impact you\n- Learning the
requirements of the standards on the Management of Alarm Systems\n- Learni
ng the alarm management lifecycle\n- Learning about the common alarm manag
ement problems\n- Learning the best practices to improve the alarm system
performance\n- Learning the metrics to measure success in alarm management
