DESCRIPTION:Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) has crossed a journey of abo
ut four decades and could gradually attract a larger group of researchers
across the globe. This non-conducting ceramic structure with partially ope
n boundary is full of mysteries in terms of its resonance behavior and fee
ding mechanisms. This talk will address some unveiled mysteries of DRA mod
es and possibilities of realizing novel antennas and feeds which could be
broadly categorized into a contrasting pair - (1) unknown modes in known D
RAs and (2) known modes in unknown DRAs. Category-1 describes a new radiat
ing mode that was successfully demonstrated in a cylindrical geometry and
its subsequent growth in terms of various applications. The challenge of a
ddressing its boundary conditions and developments of advanced feeding mec
hanisms will be discussed. Category-2 deals with a different concept of hy
brid/composite geometries where our known modes can be strategically emplo
yed in generating useful radiation patterns. They are primarily meant for
low-profile wireless device. This ‘mode-reconfiguring technique’ will
be addressed elaborately focusing on the potential scopes for the future r
esearch and development. In addition\, this talk will try to address a few
state-of-the-art techniques such as glue-free mount for DRA and a promisi
ng metal-dielectric hybrid subarray.\n\nCo-sponsored by: Staracomm Montré
