DESCRIPTION:This will be a competition for students to innovatively solve p
roblems when presented with some parts that may or may not be involved in
creating a solution.\n\nTeams will be paired\, but the pairings and the ch
allenges will not be known until 8:30 the day of the competition. The pair
s must work together to complete the task. We will use Zoom breakout rooms
and each pair of teams will have their own. Work will be submitted into G
oogle shared folders\, which will be locked for edits at noon. Schematics
(any format including photos of hand drawn ones) and source code must be s
ubmitted. Also teams will have video of their operation by noon to ensure
those with judging later do not have additional time to continue work.\nJu
dging will be from 12:00 to 16:00. Each team will have 20 minutes to prese
nt so there will be 12 pairs of teams for 24 teams total.\n\nTeams may be
up to 4 students. They must be IEEE Student Members\, but need not be from
the same school or a school with an active student branch. They must be R
egion 2 students.\n\nNot a Student Member? Join us here: https://www.ieee.
org/membership/join/index.html\n\nRequired skills will be analog design (t
ransistors and op amps) for sensor interface and digital programming (Ardu
ino\, any language you choose).\nParticipants will need soldering stations
 & solder\, basic hand tools (wire cutters\, needle nose pliers\, etc:). V
oltmeters and oscilloscopes are necessary. Other measuring tools are allow
ed\, but external sources\, such as signal generators\, are prohibited.\nT
hey will also need to supply a computer for programming the Arduino device
.\nDC power supplies\, battery power\, or using a USB input for 5V power o
nly are to be provided by the participant.\n\nPrizes will be awarded:\nMad
 Scientist - $250 for the best overall.\nEvil Wizard - $200 for completing
the assignment and doing something weird.\nSorcerer's Apprentice - $50 fo
r not completing the assignment\, but doing something weird and entertaini
ng.\nJourneyman Spark - $0 for others competing the assignment.\nSmokey th
e Bear - $0 for those that did not work\, but did not set off smoke alarms
and evacuation of the building.\n\nOnly one member should register for ea
ch team. Names and IEEE numbers for all team members are required to compl
ete your registration.\n\nIf you are interested in participating\, but nee
d others to form a team\, please register and indicate that under team mem
bers.\n\nAgenda: \n8:30 AM - problems assigned to the teams\n\n12:00 PM -
team submissions must be complete\n\n12:00 - 4:00 PM - presentation and in
terviews with the judges\n\n5:00 PM - Awards\n\nVirtual: https://events.vt
