DESCRIPTION:CHAPTER TECHNICAL PRESENTATIONS SESSION 2 (5:15 – 6:00 PM):\n
\nF. Principles and Applications of Digital Radiography\, Kodak's Contribu
tions\nSreeram (Ram) Dhurjaty\, PhD\, IEEE Life Senior Member\, Distinguis
hed Speaker\n\nThe IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Roches
ter Chapter\nis proud to present Ram Dhurjaty\, PhD\, IEEE Life Senior Mem
ber\, Distinguished Speaker\nat our Section's joint chapters meeting (JCM)
on April 26\, 2022.\n\nEastman Kodak was in the forefront of Medical Imag
ing. X-Ray film played a large role as a capture\, viewing\, storage\, and
archival medium. The barrier to entry for film was enormous\, leading to
high-profit margins for Kodak.\n\nProcessing of film involved chemicals an
d their management. Long-term archives were in film farms or local vaults
in hospitals. Disposal of chemicals was not ecologically sustainable.\n\nT
here was a necessity to replace film with modalities that had all the adva
ntages of film without disrupting the workflow and protocols used by Radio
logists and Technologists\, as well as their productivity. This was a tall
order and took decades to achieve\n\nThis talk focusses on two modalities
: Computed Radiography\, and Retrofittable digital radiography. The evolut
ion in Digital Radiography has practically eliminated screen film Radiogra
phy\, except for specialized procedures and has spawned a multi-billion do
llar industry\, world-wide.\n\nThis talk is about the field of Digital Rad
iography including Computed Radiography as well as retrofittable digital r
adiography\, which as later commercialized by Carestream\, that owns all t
he original Kodak IP\, in medical imaging.\n\nIt is fitting on this Histor
ic day\, when the contributions of Kodak’s contribution to Digital Camer
as is being recognized\, that we talk about contributions of Kodak in digi
tal radiography.\n\n[IEEE Rochester Section Joint Chapters Meeting](https:
