DESCRIPTION:This presentation is an introduction to the field of conductor
Sag & Tension. It will reveal the basic concepts involved in the behavior
of overhead conductors that are strung up under tension between structures
and operated under a range of electrical loading conditions. Also describ
ed are the influences on conductor behavior by external forces such as ice
accumulation\, hurricane winds\, solar heating\, and varying ambient air
temperatures.\n\nWhile designing an overhead line is quite beyond the scop
e of this presentation\, it provides the basic principles of conductor beh
avior that a line designer needs to understand in order to properly constr
uct the sag & tension charts for an overhead line.\n\nJust for fun\, it wi
ll answer a few historical questions\, like:\n\nWho built the first overhe
ad electrical line in America?\n\nWhere and when was the first overhead po
wer line built?\n\nWhen and where was the first commercial 220 kV transmis
sion line built in the USA?\n\nRegister now for the opportunity to learn a
bout a subject whose somewhat obscure knowledge has evolved for more than
100 years.\n\nBring your questions for an interactive presentation and dis
cussion.\n\nREGISTRATION REQUIRED FROM THIS PAGE -- WEBEX LOG-IN LINK EMAI
LED "DAY OF" -- SCROLL DOWN FOR AGENDA & PDH DETAILS\n\nIF YOU SEE "REGIST
RATION FULL"\, CONTACT HOST (link below) TO BE PLACED ON THE WAITING LIST.
\n\nSpeaker(s): Joe Renowden\, \n\nAgenda: \nTuesday\, May 17th\; Everyone
 Welcome\; Pre-Registration Required\; No Fees.\n\nAttendance is limited.
IEEE Member Early Registration 2-Week Period begins April 8th. Member numb
er is required.\n\nNon-Member/Guest Registration begins April 22nd\; non-m
embers/guests registering prior to April 22nd will receive an auto-confirm
ation\, but your seat will not be reserved/processed until April 22nd. No
need to register again. Thanks for your interest in IEEE!\n\nRegistration
closes Monday\, May 16th\, 11:59 PM Eastern.\n\nIf you find it necessary t
o cancel\, please send a message to above Host: Lehigh Valley Section Chap
ter. No-Shows are unfair to others we would turn away if class is full. Th
ank you.\n\nWebEx will open early by 3:30 PM. The log-in link & dial-in nu
mbers will be e-mailed "day of"\, only to those who have pre-registered. A
ttendance will be recorded electronically. Phone-in callers\, from any vin
tage phone\, are also welcome with self-identification or be expelled.\n\n
WebEx attendance is FREE\; no WebEx account needed.\n\nJoin the WebEx earl
y to test & adjust your settings. Networking for everyone begins at 4 PM.\
n\nPresentation will start promptly at 4:30 PM Eastern.\n\nAttendees may s
peak and ask questions. This will be an interactive meeting\, NOT a one-wa
y lecture. Webcam use is your choice.\n\nYour e-mail address\, as register
ed\, is our only method of communication and will be used for issuing the
WebEx log-in link & phone dial-in number\, slides when available\, PDH\, a
nd any program change/cancellation messages.\n\nCertificate for 2 PDH is a
vailable only upon advance request. IEEE membership is required for a PDH
certificate. You must include your active IEEE membership number. Certific
ates in pdf format will be issued post-meeting\, when volunteers can prepa
re them\, to those who (a) requested one in advance and (b) attended the e
