DESCRIPTION:There are high social expectations and needs for education in m
athematical sciences\, data sciences\, and artificial intelligence. We can
see such example of expectations as the start of the Approved Program for
Mathematics\, Data Science and AI Smart Higher Education of the MEXT(MDAS
H). In particular\, with regard to the part of the "Kokoro-e"(ethical\, le
gal\, and societal issues on mathematical sciences\, data sciences\, and a
rtificial intelligence) of the MDASH program\, which is an interdisciplina
ry field requires knowledge and thought of humanities and sciences\, so ma
ny instructors may be wondering how to provide such education and training
of the "Kokoro-e" part.\n\nThe education of "Kokoro-e" part of the progra
m requires knowledge and expertise on ELSI (ethical\, legal\, and societal
issues) of sciences and technologies. The ELSI research program was estab
lished for the first time in the Human Genome Project (HGP) started in the
United States in 1990. In the HGP\, a budget of 3% to 5% of the entire re
search program will be given to ELSI program.\n\nThere are various ELSIs i
n data science and artificial intelligence. For example\, it is known that
its use may amplify people's discrimination and prejudice\, hinder people
's free choices\, and distort the perception of the world on which their c
hoices are based. There is also ongoing debate about who is responsible fo
r the resulting harm when machines operate autonomously in society\, leavi
ng the hands of human control\, such as self-driving cars. It is expected
that these issues will be dealt with in the part of "Kokoro-e" in the MDAS
H program.\n\nHowever\, it can be considered that we have already entered
an era when we enjoy and sufferd from the vorious application of data scie
nces and AI. So\, we also need to give primary ELSI education to our child
in primary and secondary shools and the education on the ELSI of such sci
eneces is not limited to university.\n\nIn this symposium\, adding to two
instructors of the "kokoro-e" MDASH course inthe Open University of Japan\
, who are the SITE members\, we will have a up-and-coming pedagogist of ed
ucation of the ELSI of artificial intelligence in primary and secondary ed
ucation. We have three lectures of these sholars and discussions among the
sholars and the experts from pegatogy fields.\n\nCo-sponsored by: Social
