DESCRIPTION:Electromagnetics theory is surrounded by mystery and magic. Mos
tly because the mathematics needed to solve\nMaxwell’s equations are mes
sy enough that most of us avoid them at all costs! EMI/EMC is even worse\,
and often\nconsidered voodoo magic!\nThis presentation is intended to rem
ove the mystery behind EMI/EMC and electromagnetics by explaining things i
n\neveryday terms\, and without the mathematics. Some of the basic symbols
used in mathematics\, such as integration\,\nderivatives\, and weird vect
or symbols are explained. Then using these simple explanations\, Faraday a
nd Maxwell’s\ncontribution to electromagnetics is explained.\nThese conc
epts are not just university-only-interest\, they have real world applicat
ion in the design of electronic\nequipment both for EMI/EMC control as wel
l as high speed signal quality issues. Faraday’s law is an introduction
to\ninductance\, and this presentation will examine inductance and its imp
act on printed circuit board (PCB) design\, the\nconcept of “ground”\,
and return current flow in typical printed circuit board stackups. Variou
s typical mistakes during\nPCB design that greatly impact the EMI/EMC perf
ormance will be demonstrated during this discussion. Simple\ndesign approa
ches that do not increase the cost of the PCB are explained.\n\nSpeaker(s)
