DESCRIPTION:The use of artificial intelligence (AI)\, particularly in the f
ield of medical imaging\, is one of the utmost promising areas of health i
nnovation. Radiology is transitioning from a subjective perceptual skill t
o a more objective science as a result of an irreversible growth in data a
nd the potential application of artificial intelligence to uncover finding
s that are either identifiable or not by the human eye. Radiologists\, pio
neers of the medical industry's digital transition\, can direct the integr
ation of AI into healthcare. However\, they won't be replaced since radiol
ogy also involves interventional procedures\, policy-making\, education\,
taking patient values and preferences into account\, diagnosis communicati
on\, and medical judgement. Radiologists will be able to undertake more jo
bs that provide value as a result of AI's higher efficiency\, which will i
ncrease their visibility to patients and enable them to play a key part in
diverse clinical teams. This distinguished lecture will give an overview
about the use of AI in medical imaging.\n\nSpeaker(s): Prof Erik Meijering
