DESCRIPTION:Presentation of the 2022 edition of the Outside System Connecti
vity Chapter of the International Roadmap for Devices and Systems (IEEE IR
DS):\n\nThe purpose of the Outside System Connectivity roadmap is to ident
ify communication requirements for systems in\ndifferent applications\, id
entify gaps in capabilities\, critical component and device development ne
eds for the next 15\nyears and monitor developments of capabilities to fil
l these future gaps. The Internet of Everything (IoE) is\ncontinuing to ex
pand in applications that demand higher volumes of higher performance comm
unication. The IoE\nincludes a wide range of Internet of Things (IoT) devi
ces communicating with cloud or edge computing that store\nand process dat
a and which was analyzed with applications and actions communicated. Most
applications will\nemploy RF/microwave wireless communication to connect t
o the internet which will then connect through high-\nperformance backhaul
or fiber optical interconnects to a cloud data center. Applications that
required fast\ncommunication and decision making\, such as autonomous vehi
cles and traffic control\, are developing high speed\nnetworks in vehicle
and adopting edge computing. Higher speed networks are needed to communica
te with low\nlatency to edge processors and within edge and cloud data/pro
cessing centers. Higher data rate RF and photonic\ncomponents are needed t
hat operate with ever increasing energy efficiency. Applications and futur
e needs will be\ndiscussed in this presentation\n\nCo-sponsored by: IEEE I
