DESCRIPTION:12 PM (EST) Tuesday (Oct. 25)\, at EPS - IEEE Electronics Packa
ging Society Branch Chapter at the University of Waterloo\, we are honoure
d to have Dr. Alexander Lidow\, CEO and co-founder of Efficient Power Conv
ersion Corporation (EPC) giving a talk on "An Energy Savings Journey". The
webinar will be held on Zoom webinar virtually.\n\nAbstract :\n\nStarting
with a few words from a professor in 1976 about how energy impacts the gl
obal standard of living\, I was inspired to find the most efficient ways t
o use electricity as a career. Milestones along the way include the basic
inventions that led to modern silicon power MOSFETs as an R&D engineer\, t
hrough a career in manufacturing\, and eventually leadership of a multinat
ional publicly-traded semiconductor company. Finding silicon at its theore
tical limits for power conversion at the end of the last millennium\, I th
en started a new path with GaN-on-Si technology by starting Efficient Powe
r Conversion (EPC). The team of engineers and scientists at EPC have devel
oped products that continued the trend towards greater energy efficiency w
hile opening whole new applications that take advantage of GaN’s extraor
dinary characteristics.\n\nBiography :\n\nAlexander Lidow is the CEO and c
o-founder of Efficient Power Conversion Corporation (EPC). Prior to foundi
ng EPC\, Dr. Lidow was CEO of International Rectifier Corporation. A co-in
ventor of the HEXFET power MOSFET\, Dr. Lidow holds many patents in power
semiconductor technology and has authored numerous publications on related
subjects\, including co-authoring the first textbook on GaN transistors\,
GaN Transistors for Efficient Power Conversion\, now in its third edition
published by John Wiley and Sons. Lidow earned his Bachelor of Science de
gree from Caltech and his Ph.D. from Stanford.\n\nCo-sponsored by: IEEE KW
 Section\n\nSpeaker(s): Alexander Lidow\, \n\nAgenda: \n• We have a drai
n of graduate and undergraduate students who get their degree in electroni
cs\, but later move to software and computer science jobs. We wanted you t
o share how your professional career evolved (your life story) and how you
followed your passion as an example in order to motivate students to purs
ue their paths in semiconductor and hardware engineering.\no This part can
be 20 min.\n\n• Also\, to give them the vision\, it would be very helpf
ul if you can provide a perspective on applications for GaN-based electron
ics and then narrow it down to the bottlenecks that may need further atten
tion and effort by researchers and students.\no This part can be 15 – 20
min.\n\n• We can reserve 5-10 min for questions.\n\nRoom: 3142\, Bldg:
