DESCRIPTION:The IEEE University of Colorado\, Colorado Springs (UCCS) Stude
nt Branch and IEEE Pikes Peak Section\, will celebrate IEEE Day on 6 Oct 2
022.\n\nThe IEEE Pikes Peak Section will be visiting IEEE UCCS Student Bra
nch to gather their needs and requirements. and are prepared to provide tw
o presentations.\n\nThree presentatons are given: One is about a general s
tatus update to the Pikes Peak Section and the next two are for IEEE UCCS
Student Branch.\n\nThe first talk is a short 6-minute video recording narr
ated by Dr John Santiago talking about the Status Update of the Achievemen
ts from the IEEE Pikes Peak Section located at: [IEEE Region 5 Achievement
s Forum\, 9 September 2022 | IEEE Pikes Peak Section.](https://site.ieee.o
rg/pikespeak/ieee-region-5/) The talk was in preparation for the Region 5
Achievements Forum\, scheduled for 9 Sep 2022 presenting IEEE Pikes Peak S
ection Status Update and Achievements for historical purposes. A follow-up
virtual session will be scheduled shortly following IEEE Day to address a
ny comments or questions from the video. You can send your comments and qu
estions to Dr. Santiago at john.santiago@ieee.org.\n\nThe next two present
ations are scheduled from 11:00 am- 12:30 am at University of Colorado\, C
olorado Springs (UCCS) at the Saponas Lounge in the Engineering and Applie
d Science Building (Second floor). Unfortunately\, UCCS has limited seatin
g.\n\nThe first two members of the Pikes Peak Section to contact Dr John S
antiago at john.santiago@ieee.org before 6 Oct 2022 will be able to attend
the two presentations.\n\nFor now\, a video without narrations will be pr
ovided as well as digital flipbooks and can be found here before 6 Oct: [P
rofessional Development | IEEE Pikes Peak Section.](https://site.ieee.org/
pikespeak/professional-development/) Follow-up photos and other media\, as
well as any updates\, will be provided after the event.\n\nThe first pres
entation\, entitled\, "Why Having a Technical Mindset May Not Be Enough"\,
and given by Dr. John Santiago (Chair\, IEEE Pikes Peak Section and Webma
ster) will highlight about being successful in an engineering career. Dr S
antiago will introduce an integrated growth mindset focusing on creating v
alue and system thinking [found on the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Ne
twork (KEEN)] \, and Pyramid of Success On Leadership as a framework in he
lping student members achieve success while giving the students a competit
ive edge. With accelerating changes in the global community\, today’s so
lutions are often obsolete tomorrow. What does this imply to student membe
rs as future engineers? Students will need to be empowered to investigate
a rapidly changing world by persistently anticipating and meeting the need
s of a changing world. That is\, students will need to pursue knowledge wi
th their own discoveries to reveal innovative solutions. These innovative
solutions must be meaningful in creating value that benefits themselves\,
their families\, their employers and to society. So having a technical ski
llset is not enough…find out what else you will need to help students be
come successful in their engineering career.\n\nThe second presentation\,
entitled\, Going Pro\, is given by Daniel Thomson (IEEE Pikes Peak Section
Student and Young Professional Coordinator). When it comes to professiona
l organizations like IEEE\, you don't HAVE to be a member\, but would you
trust your doctor if they told you that they've never been a member of the
American Medical Association? IEEE is the largest professional organizati
on for software\, electrical and computer engineering IN THE WORLD. Within
IEEE there are opportunities for absolutely anyone\, even non-STEM majors
! Being a student member has never been more affordable and more crucial g
iven the intense employment headwinds and economic downturn. Join me as I
discuss WHY being a student\, graduate or young professional member of IEE
E is so valuable and HOW you can get instant Return on Investment (ROI) fr
om your membership.\n\nSpeaker(s): John Santiago\, Daniel Thomson\n\n1420
