DESCRIPTION:Wireless Power Transfer Technology: Past\, Now and the Future\n
\nDr. Wei LIN\n\nAssistant Professor\n\nDepartment of Electronic and Infor
mation Engineering\, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University\, Hung Hom\, Kow
 loon\, Hong Kong\n\nDate : 14 November 2022 (Monday)\n\nTime : 4:00 pm –
5:00 pm (UTC+08:00) Hong Kong\n\nOnsite (with limited seats) is for the p
articipants in City University of Hong Kong (CityU)\n\nOnline (Zoom) is fo
 r the participants outside CityU\n\nVenue : Room 15-202\, 15/F\, Lau Ming
 Wai Academic Building\, CityU\n\nRegistration : https://events.vtools.ieee
.org/event/register/331526\n\nFar field wireless power transfer (WPT) enab
led Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications are the emerging technology and
the future trend along with the rapid development of 5G IoT ecosystems. WP
T-enabled IoT devices enjoy many advantages as battery-free\, environmenta
l-friendly\, capable of operating in remote places without manual maintena
nce.\n\nThis talk will introduce the history and development of WPT techno
logy at the beginning\, and will be followed by a series of advanced anten
na technologies for far field WPT-enabled battery-free IoT systems. Severa
l metamaterial-inspired electrically small rectennas with exceptional wire
less power capture capacities will be introduced. Based on the developed u
ltra-compact rectennas\, two WPT-enabled light and temperature sensor syst
ems have been successfully built and tested. A video demo of the prototype
d system will be presented. Moreover\, an ultrathin beam-steerable transmi
tting antenna with long distance and larger area coverage will be discusse
d.\n\nRoom: Room 15-202\, 15/F\, Bldg: Lau Ming Wai Academic Building\, Ci
