DESCRIPTION:When natural disasters hit within the US\, the American Red Cro
ss is one of the first to respond with emergency assistance. But for them
to do their jobs\, they need power\, internet\, and voice communications l
inks. What do they do when a hurricane\, tornado\, flood\, or major fire h
as knocked out the power\, phone lines\, internet links\, and cell towers?
They call on IEEE's MOVE volunteers\, just like they have for over 25 maj
or hurricances\, tornadoes\, floods\, and fires.\n\nThe IEEE MOVE Disaster
Relief & Outreach Vehicle will be at Virginia Commonwealth University on
Monday\, February 13th between 10:00am and 1:30pm for tours.\n\nIEEE MOVE
is primarily a Mobile Emergency Relief Program\nThe MOVE program is commit
ted to assisting victims of and responders to natural disasters with short
-term communications\, technology\, and power solutions. These temporary e
mergency relief provisions help people stay connected and ensure access to
the help they need. Services include internet service\, charging stations
\, and lighting resources.\n\nMOVE also provides STEM (Science Technology
Engineering Math) Education Outreach\nWhen not deployed for disaster relie
f efforts\, the IEEE MOVE vehicle is taken to schools\, fairs\, and other
venues to educate the public\, showcase\, leading technologies\, and raise
awareness about the positive impact these technologies have on society.\n
\nYou do not need to register for this event\, but if you would like to vo
lunteer to help\, please contact allen.jones@ieee.org.\n\nThe event is fre
e and is open to the general public. Please feel free to pass this informa
tion along to anyone who you feel might be interested.\n\nCan't make it to
VCU on this date?\n\nThe MOVE vehicle will also be at the Dewey Gottwald
Center of the Science Museum of Virginia on Sunday\, February 12th. You ca
n find details for that event at events.vtools.ieee.org/m/343641.\n\nBldg:
