: Thursday May 25\, 2023\n\n6:00 Vendor Table Setup (till 8:30)\n8:00 RE
GISTRATION & EXHIBITS\n\n8:30 CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST\n\n9:00\nSession 1 -
Placing Board Level Decoupling Capacitors\n\nDecoupling capacitors can be
an easy and elegant way to reduce EMC on a board. Determining where decoup
ling capacitors should be placed on a board\, and the fundamental principl
es that determine their placement\, will be answered by Dr. Eric Bogatin a
long with delightful demonstrations during the first EMCFest presentation\
n\n10:00 Break & Exhibits\n\n11:00\nSession 2 – Simple Calculations Any
one Can Do to Help Ensure EMC Design Compliance\n\nDoes your analog ground
really need to be isolated from your digital ground? What’s the maximum
data rate your wire harness can carry without exceeding radiated emission
s requirements? Does your heatsink need to be grounded? These are some of
the many questions that must be answered during a product’s initial desi
gn stage (before hardware is built and tested). Often these decisions are
made by applying design guidelines. The problem is\, there are no general
guidelines that adequately address these situations. In many cases\, a sim
ple calculation will provide a definitive answer with no hardware or testi
ng required.\n\n12:00 LUNCH\n\n1:00\nSession 3 – Stopping PCB Boards Fr
om Screaming\n\nPCB Boards need to be deliberately designed to avoid being
very noisy. Dr. Eric Bogatin is a career guide on silencing screaming PCB
boards. Join us at the EMCFest\, as right after lunch Dr. Eric Bogatin gi
ves this presentation. It’s a great demonstration of three important PCB
layout techniques to keep your boards from screaming.\n\n2:00 Break & Ex
hibits\n\n3:00\nSession 4 – Horrible EMC Design Advice You Can Find on t
he Internet (and in Print)\n\nEMC consultants review lots of printed circu
it board layouts and electronic system designs. Some of them are pretty go
od and others have significant issues. Occasionally\, designs that are inc
apable of meeting any of their EMC requirements pop up. Almost invariably\
, these designs are heavily influenced by “helpful” EMC advice the des
igner found online. Sometimes\, this advice was taken from 40-year-old pub
lications and copied into new documents. Sometimes\, it’s new advice bas
ed on bad physics. This presentation reviews some of the bad advice circul
ating online and in print today. It also provides a few clues that can hel
p you recognize bad advice when you see it.\n\n4:00 Reception\n\n5:00 Cl
ose of EMC Fest\n\nNOTE: breaks will be scheduled at the speaker’s discr
etion. Table-top displays (exhibits) will be open during registration\, lu
nch\, all breaks\, and the reception. Access to the table-top displays is
available during the technical sessions\, but the displays may not be mann
ed during those times.\n\nLunch Menu:\n\nRoma Buffet\n\nVegetable Minestro
ne Soup\n\nCaesar Salad\n\nWarm Garlic Bread Sticks\n\nPenne Pasta\n\nCrea
my Alfredo & Tangy Marinara Sauce\n\nRoasted Vegatables with Italian Seaso
ning\n\nMeatballs\n\nGrilled Chicken\n\nCoffee\, Soft Drinks & Iced Tea\n\
