DESCRIPTION:Scalability has become a significant research topic of blockcha
ins\, since it is deemed as a bottleneck preventing blockchain technologie
s from being largely adopted. Several representative solutions have been p
roposed to improve the blockchain scalability. Especially\, sharding techn
ique is believed as a promising Layer1 solution. Although blockchain shard
ing can improve the throughput of blockchain systems significantly in theo
ry\, there are some typical challenges behind this technique. For example\
, i) the number of cross-shard transactions in a sharding system is overwh
elming\, ii) the atomicity of cross-shard transactions is difficult to gua
rantee\, and iii) the workloads across all blockchain shards are severely
unbalanced. In this talk\, I am going to first introduce the preliminaries
of blockchain scalability\, then present my recent studies on exploring t
he scalability towards the sharding-based blockchains.\n\nSpeaker(s): Dr.
