DESCRIPTION:“The Academic Life” Faculty-Development Workshops are desig
ned for those already in or seeking to enter STEM-oriented careers in acad
emia. We use dramatizations followed by discussion to explore potential ch
allenges to academic success that go beyond subject matter expertise and c
reativity. Topics to be covered include the tenure process\, scientific pu
 blications\, plagiarism\, microaggressions\, and the imposter syndrome.\n\
nA person entering a junior faculty position may find oneself poorly prepa
red to deal with these challenges\, especially if one is a member of an un
derrepresented group and lacks access to effective mentoring. Each topic w
ill be presented using a short presentation or dramatization followed by i
