DESCRIPTION:Part 1) Partial Discharge – Causes\, Effects\, and Online Det
ection Methods\n\n- What is partial discharge (PD) and why do we care?\n-
Causes of partial discharge\n- Effects of PD – examples\n- Side effects
and symptoms of PD\n- Online detection methods\n- Ultrasonic monitoring\n-
Transient Earth Voltage measurement\n- UHF Radiation detection\n- Cable s
hield HFCT\n\n- Periodic surveying\n- Interpreting results\n- Full time mo
nitoring\n\nPart 2) Infrared Thermography for Electrical System Maintenanc
 e - How to Ensure Accuracy\, Safety\, and Reliability\n\nOnce an obscure t
echnology\, infrared thermography has become a common test technique for i
nspecting operating electrical systems and equipment. Although today’s t
hermal imaging equipment is relatively easy to use\, performing an accurat
e infrared inspection is more than simply ‘pointing and shooting’ a th
ermal imager. Ensuring success requires a trained operator\, the correct e
quipment\, and knowledge of temperature limits for inspected equipment. Th
is course will cover the key elements necessary for safely performing accu
rate infrared inspections\, prioritizing exceptions\, and techniques for d
etermining if electrical equipment is operating within design temperature
limits.\n\nThis course is a must for anyone who performs infrared inspecti
ons of electrical systems for the purpose of Preventive/Predictive Mainten
ance or Quality Assurance.\n\nLearning outcomes\n\n- recognize various use
s of infrared imaging for electrical systems\n- select thermal imaging equ
ipment appropriate for any infrared inspection\n- improve inspection findi
ngs and temperature measurement accuracy\n- prioritize exceptions utilizin
g published engineering standards\n- apply temperature limits to operating
electrical components\n- ensure compliance with published standards for i
 nfrared inspection reports\n\nSpeaker(s): Jorge\, Jim\n\nAgenda: \nThe sem
inar fee includes lunch\, refreshments and handouts. Non-members joining I
EEE within 30 days of the seminar will be rebated 50% of the IEEE registra
tion charge.\n\nFour hours of instruction will be provided. If desired\, I
EEE Continuing Education Units (0.4 CEUs) will be offered for this course
 - a small fee of $55 will be required for processing.\n\nPlease pay attent
ion to the “Registration Fee” and choose the appropriate choice either
with or without CEUs.\n\nCEU Evaluation Form can be found at: [IEEE Power
