April 2023.Bhoothathank ettu power station is the only bulb turbine based power station in Kerala which is under construction and is yet to be commissioned. As it is not co mmissioned yet it was a great experience for the participants.When a bulb turbine based power station is commissioned the turbine will be submerged in water \, so it was golden opportunity to visit it before it got commiss ioned.\n\nThe team departed at 9 AM IST and arrived a t the destination at 11:15 PM IST. The assistant Engineer \, Mr. Chandrabose KP guided the par ticipants. They got splitted in to two teams and guided by professionals. He explained about Bhoothathankettu Small Hydro Electric Project . Since t he type of turbine used here is Bulb turbine he described the working of t urbine. He also explicated about the production capability and distributio n management of the power station . It is Kerala's first ever ' Bulb turbi ne' power project .It is 11m above from the sea level. The power house is located at the right bank of river with a size of 53 m× 25.50m. its maxim um gross head is 11.95m.\n\nThe type of turbine is determined by model tes t.The participants also saw the control room and the batteries used in pow er stations. As the power station is still under construction\, the partic ipants could clearly witness the systems.\n\nAs student engineers \, it wa s a valuable opportunity for the team to witness and understand the workin g of a Power Station and electricity production . The team also visited Th attekkad Bird Sanctuary.It is the first bird sanctuary in Kerala.
