DESCRIPTION:The Faculty of Engineering and IEEE EUI SB are organizing a tri
p to the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG)\,
Kottamia Astronomical Observatory.\n\nAbout Kottamia Observatory:\n\n- Ko
ttamia astronomical observatory is the largest telescope in the Arab world
\, the Middle East\, and North Africa. A large number of scientists and re
searchers in the field of physics and astronomy use this telescope. It is
unique in terms of its location.\n- This telescope is located approximatel
y 80 km from the center of the capital “Cairo” in the direction of the
Suez City (Ain El Sokhna Road) over a mount that rises 450 meters above s
ea level. The Observatory was established in 1964\, as an extension of the
Helwan Observatory\, which was established in 1903\, one of the oldest re
search institutes in Egypt and the Middle East.\n- Kottamia Observatory is
regarded as a small scientific city.\n- One of the most important achieve
ments made by Kottamia Observatory is its participation in the observation
s which took for the lunar surface to choose human landing sites on the mo
on in the late sixties. In addition\, some projects\, scientific theses\,
and research have also been conducted on this Telescope's accuracy. Recent
ly\, the Telescope has been developed and upgraded as the other telescopes
in the world. Over the last twenty years\, the visual system has been cha
nged\, and the silvering operation has been updated to be automatic. The e
lectrical circuits and mechanical have been updated too. The controlling s
ystem of the Telescope and its dome became automatic via computers.\n\nTri
p details:\n\n- Pick-up location: EUI Campus.\n- Pick-up time: 4:00 PM rig
ht after the end of the day.\n- Observatory location: WRMH+J3P، طريق
المرصد الفلكي\, Cairo Governorate Desert\, Cairo Governorate 4
830301\n- Drop-off location: There will be one or two drop-off locations t
hat will be determined later on.\n- Drop-off time: Friday morning.\n- Over
night fees: 150 EGP.\n\nOur photographer Seif Wafik\, an IEEE EUI SB membe
r and a student at the Faculty of Computing and Information Sciences\, wil
l be taking many photos.\n\nYou will find them uploaded [here](https://dri
