DESCRIPTION:Renewable energy is a topic of national interest. Iowa has a lo
t of wind and is a prominent user of this energy to provide electricity. M
idAmerican Energy is among the leaders in this market.\n\nHow many turbine
s are in MidAmerican’s fleet?\nAs of 2022\, we have more than 3\,400 win
d turbines across 33 Iowa counties.\n\nHow much electricity can be generat
ed from MidAmerican's wind farms?\nAs of 2022\, our fleet of wind farms ge
nerates more than 7\,500 megawatts of electricity – enough to power more
than 2.3 million average households each year.\n\nHow important is wind p
ower to MidAmerican?\nOur fleet of wind farms represent an investment of n
early $14.4 billion in clean\, renewable energy since 2004. MidAmerican ow
ns 5.9% of all the wind capacity in the country. We are proud to help make
Iowa the national leader in wind energy generation as a percentage of tot
al statewide electricity generation\, according to the American Wind Energ
y Association.\n\nHow fast can a wind turbine spin?\nAt its tip\, a wind t
urbine blade can spin as fast as 200 miles per hour! To prevent damage fro
m severe weather\, our wind turbines automatically shut down and stop spin
ning when winds are strong enough to cause the blades to spin faster than
they can safely manage.\n\nHow big are wind turbines?\nThe first wind turb
ines in our fleet were 71m (approx. 233 feet) tall. The tallest model of w
ind turbine in our fleet is nearly 150m (nearly 600 feet) tall. That’s a
lmost twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty! Taller towers can support lo
nger turbine blades\, which generate more electricity for longer periods o
f time. This helps us provide Iowa energy users with clean\, safe\, renewa
ble energy faster. We’ve been able to upgrade many of our older turbines
with new parts and technologies in a process called repowering.\n\nEmail
