DESCRIPTION:IEEE PES ESPAÑA | [Webinar(9º) 21.09.2023] | THE ENERGY TRANS
ITION | Towards a DECARBONIZED ENERGY | Supplying EV charging directly fro
m the Transmission Grid\n\nEstimados Miembros del Capítulo IEEE PES ESPA
ÑA y de la comunidad de sistemas eléctricos de potencia\,\nDear IEEE PES
Spain Members and Colleagues from power and energy community\,\n\nContinu
ing with the [Webinar] series on the topic\n\nLA TRANSICIÓN ENERGETICA |
Hacia una ECONOMIA DESCARBONIZADA\nTHE ENERGY TRANSITION | Towards a DECAR
BONIZED ECONOMY\n\nThe energy transition towards a decarbonized economy wi
ll present a relevant challenge and a crucial transformation faced by our
Society\; Decelerating climate change effects is becoming a moral commitme
nt.\nAs a society\, we are part of the decarbonized energy process that go
es through the electrification of the economy and it is supported by renew
ables within a sustainable energy model.\nThis means a change of paradigm
which heads towards an immediate exciting future full of challenges at all
levels associated with flexibility in its widest conception. It is assume
d that a change of paradigm\, that requires changing the focus from active
based asset management towards the digitalization that ensures resiliency
and security for the future electric systems.\nIn this context\, we need
to contribute and stimulate the exchange of ideas from different perspecti
ves and experiences\, creating a framework of reflection through these ser
ies of webinars. The expected benefit and impact is the identification of
opportunities within the complexity associated with the change of paradigm
.\n\nIn this [Webinar] Jorge Martins (REN- Portuguese TSO) will share with
us the proposal to supply EV charging directly from the HV system.\n\nTit
le: Supplying EV charging directly from the Transmission Grid\n\nContent:
The rise of electric vehicle (EV) adoption requires the development of a w
idespread charging infrastructure. The application of classic solutions is
most likely insufficient to ensure the required pace of transition. To ad
dress this challenge\, REN has developed SPEED-E\, a new grid connection s
olution capable of supplying high power to electric vehicle charging stati
ons\, directly from the Transmission Grid. This innovative solution consis
ts of a small-scale substation that connects to an existing Very High Volt
age Transmission Line\, using a special connection scheme\, which enables
increased operational flexibility and reliability. The substation uses Pow
er Voltage Transformers to transform directly Very High Voltage to Low Vol
tage\, thus circumventing the conventional multiple step-down voltage appr
oach. REN has deployed a proof-of-concept project in Portugal\, connected
to an existing 220kV transmission line\, which has been in operation since
2018. In parallel\, the European Patent has been granted in April 2021 an
d is currently valid in 32 European countries. The main differentiating fe
atures of this solution versus the conventional distribution grid power su
pply solutions include: (i) 'virtually unlimited' power available at each
site\; (ii) sustainability of the solution by enabling a new use of the ex
isting Transmission Grid\; (iii) modularity and scalability\, reducing inv
estment risk\; and (iv) superior quality of service associated to the Tran
smission Grid.\n\nSpeaker: Jorge Martins (REN- Portuguese TSO)\n\nDate: Se
ptember 21\, 2023\nTime: 18:00 -20:00 (Europa-Madrid)\nLanguage: English\n
\nParticipation in these [Webinars] is open to everyone\, including both P
ES Members and non-Members. However\, REGISTRATION is necessary in order
to receive the [Webinar] access link and URL to WebEx. The Connection link
to this [Webinar(9º) 21.09.2023] will be sent to the registrants by e-ma
