DESCRIPTION:This event will be available live at SEMI\, as well as over Zoo
 m. Get to SEMI by 6:30pm to network – and enjoy great pizza and refreshm
ents! All attendees MUST register using the Eventbrite form (see link).\n\
nFor people with motor impairments\, assistive robotic manipulators can he
lp them perform daily activities such as pick-and-place tasks\, opening do
ors\, pushing buttons\, eating\, and even personal hygiene. As such\, thes
e robotic devices have the potential to allow such individuals to regain s
ome independence in performing these tasks. However\, human interaction wi
th these manipulators can often be very challenging.\n\nIn this talk\, Mar
ia Kyrarini will describe a robot learning framework that empowers a robot
ic device to automatically generate a sequence of actions from unstructure
d spoken language\, along with the preliminary results form her recent stu
dy with 30 participants to evaluate this framework. She will also present
the preliminary results from her recent grant from the National Science Fo
undation (NSF) on developing a personalized assistive robotic system that
assesses cognitive fatigue in persons with paralysis.\n\nSpeaker(s): Maria
