DESCRIPTION:Visible light communication (VLC) is using light emitting diode
(LED) to support both information transmission and localization\, known a
s an appealing alternative to radio frequency (RF) communication technolog
y for indoor broadband applications. It is even considered as a promising
candidate for upcoming 6G with the support of backbone network. Power line
communication (PLC) systems utilize the ubiquitous power line network to
provide electricity to LED lamps and also serves as the backbone network f
or VLC applications. A novel and cost-effective indoor broadband broadcast
ing system\, integrating both VLC and PLC systems with little modification
to the current infrastructure has been proposed with better coverage. 5G
networks can also serve as the backbone of VLC. This talk covers the recen
t research progress and prototyping development in this area focusing on c
ommunication and locationing on top of illumination. The non-intrusive opt
ical therapy with light manipulation will also be introduced with prelimin
ary results\, and the future trends will also be addressed.\n\nSpeaker(s):
