DESCRIPTION:IEEE is one of the two major developers of international standa
rds that give requirements and best practices related to power quality. Hi
storically\, power quality standards have been “load based” while more
recently interest and emphasis have increased regarding “generation bas
ed” documents. In this seminar\, we will review many of the relevant IEE
E standards in their present form\, consider some of their history\, and c
onsider what changes are being debated for future revisions. The seminar w
ill include the traditional topics of harmonics\, voltage fluctuations and
flicker\, and unbalance as they relate to energy-consuming installations
in such documents as IEEE Stds 519 and 1453 and also as they relate to ene
rgy-producing installations in Stds 1547 and 2800. We will also discuss th
e IEEE Emerald Book (Std 1100) as well as standards related to overall vol
tage quality\, voltage sags\, power quality measurement\, and others. We w
ill also discuss the organizational and procedural aspects of IEEE standar
ds development\, harmonization with the International Electrotechnical Com
mission\, and ways to participate and make contributions.\n\nCo-sponsored
