DESCRIPTION:STEM.py\, a 16-hour IEEE Try Engineering-funded Python Workshop
Series\, was organized by the IEEE SIGHT Kerala Section in collaboration
with the IEEE Education Society and IEEE SB NIT Calicut. The workshop comp
rised six online sessions and one full-day offline session. The primary ob
jective of the workshop was to provide participants with a comprehensive u
nderstanding of Python programming and its applications in STEM fields.\n\
nThe first session occurred on May 27th\, 2023\, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
It provided an introduction to Python programming\, and IEEE\, and highlig
hted the benefits of learning Python. The session also covered the install
ation process for Python. Mr. Ruben Abraham Sibu\, the Industrial Relation
s Coordinator at IEEE Comsoc and Security Service Associate at Synopsis In
c.\, conducted the session.\n\nThe second and third sessions were held on
May 28th and 29th\, 2023\, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. These sessions focused
on the fundamentals of Python programming. Participants learned about IDE
s like PyCharm\, loops\, conditional statements\, functions\, lists\, tupl
es\, dictionaries\, error handling\, file handling\, and object-oriented p
rogramming. Mr. Harigovind M\, an R&D Mentor at IEEE SIGHT Kerala Section
and M.Eng student at the University of Windsor\, Canada\, facilitated thes
e sessions. Continuation of the basics of Python sessions from the previou
s day\, covering additional techniques in Python programming. The sessions
were conducted on May 28th and 29th\, 2023\, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM\, an
d were again led by Mr. Harigovind M.\n\nThe fourth session took place on
June 1st\, 2023\, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. This session provided an in-dep
th introduction to the Pandas library and explored programming using the P
andas library. Mr. Abhinav Rajeev\, a Junior Research Fellow at IIT Palakk
ad and Secretary of IEEE SIGHT Kerala Section conducted the session.\n\nTh
e fifth session was conducted on June 3rd\, 2023\, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
. It covered the fundamentals of the Matplotlib library\, including plots\
, charts\, and visualization techniques using the Pandas library. The sess
ion was conducted by Mr. Solomon Staby\, an Intern at Bosch and M.Tech AI
student.\n\nThe sixth and final online session took place on June 8th\, 20
23\, from 7:00 PM onwards. This session explored prompt engineering\, diff
erent AI applications\, and how AI can enhance programming. The session wa
s handled by Mr. Ajai Sunny Joseph\, Associate Technical Lead at Key Value
Software Systems.\n\nParticipants were assessed through two tests based o
n the content covered in the sessions. The first test analyzed progress af
ter the initial three sessions and was held on May 31st\, 2023\, from 7:00
PM to 8:30 PM. The second test\, focusing on Pandas and Matplotlib librar
ies\, took place on June 5th\, 2023. Based on the performance in these tes
ts\, 30 participants were selected to attend the offline session.\n\nThe f
ull-day offline session was conducted at NIT Calicut on June 10th\, 2023\,
from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. During this session\, participants were divided
into teams and provided with a mentor for each group. They worked on a pro
ject utilizing Python and its libraries\, receiving guidance from their me
ntors. The projects undertaken by each team were analyzed\, and winning te
ams were selected based on their performance. Participants received partic
ipation certificates\, certificates for winning teams\, and STEM kits. Mr.
Abhinav Rajeev\, Secretary of IEEE SIGHT Kerala Section handled the offli
ne session.\n\nThe STEM.py\, IEEE Try Engineering funded Python Workshop S
eries\, organized by the IEEE SIGHT Kerala Section in collaboration with t
he IEEE Education Society and IEEE SB NIT Calicut\, provided participants
an extensive understanding of Python programming and its applications. Thr
ough online and offline sessions\, participants learned the basics of Pyth
on\, explored libraries like Pandas and Matplotlib\, and engaged in hands-
on projects. The workshop fostered skill development and provided a platfo
rm for participants to showcase their abilities. The event's success was e
vident through the active participation\, learning outcomes\, and recognit
ion given to the winners.\n\nNIT\, Calicut\, Kerala\, India\, 673601
