DESCRIPTION:Welcome to 2024 CVT members\n\nOur 2024 first half member tech
talks begin on Monday\, February 19\, 2024\, not our usual Tuesday.\n\nWe
are joining with UT Dallas in presenting a Distinguished Lecturer\, and hi
s schedule only permits the Monday talk.\n\nThe details are:\n\nDr. Ali C.
Began\, Professor of Computer Science\, Ozyegin University will be presen
ting on:\n“Unifying Real-Time Communications and Content Delivery with M
edia-over-QUIC Transport.”\n\nThe talk will be in the TI Auditorium (in
the ECSS building Room 2.102\, on the ground floor\, not our usual buildin
g)\, please look at the map. The talk begins at 11:00 am\, again not our u
sual time\, and concludes at 12:00 PM.\n\nDue to the timing\, we will not
be providing a lunch option.\n\nAbout the talk:\nAbstract:\nOTT live sport
s has led sports broadcasting to a new level. Yet\, there are still some c
hallenges. For example\, nobody wants to hear a neighbor’s cheers when a
goal is scored before seeing it on the screen\, making low latency transp
ort and playback indispensable. Synchronization among all viewing devices
and social media feeds is also essential. The IETF recently started develo
ping a QUIC-based low-latency delivery solution for media ingest and distr
ibution. The Media-over-QUIC work is still in its infancy but could be a g
ame-changer. In this talk\, we will discuss the architectural design issue
s and present preliminary results from our implementation.\n\nParking pass
es will be available at the event.\n\nBiography Ali C. Begen is currently
a computer science professor at Ozyegin University and a technical consult
ant in Comcast's Advanced Technology and Standards Group. Previously\, he
was a research and development engineer at Cisco. Begen received his PhD i
n electrical and computer engineering from Georgia Tech in 2006. To date\,
he received several academic and industry awards (including an Emmy® Awa
rd for Technology and Engineering)\, and was granted 30+ US patents. In 20
20 and 2021\, he was listed among the world's most influential scientists
in the subfield of networking and telecommunications. More details are at
