DESCRIPTION:It is believed that emerging technologies changes the way elect
ricity networks operate. This includes new challenges as well as opportuni
ties for the electricity industry as well as customers. All sectors within
the power industry could be affected differently but this presentation wi
ll focus on the impacts on distribution electricity networks. The presenta
tion will give first an overview of emerging/disruptive technologies that
are currently available in the market. Without going to the details of the
battery technology\, the focus is to identify the benefits of battery ene
rgy storage systems as behind the meter installation as well as grid-conne
cted (utility scale) storage systems. Along the way\, some research questi
ons and new career opportunities will be raised.\n\nSpeaker(s): Dr.Daniel
