DESCRIPTION:Dallas CVT February 2024 update.\n\nOur spring 2024 meetings co
ntinue with our regular Third Tuesday slot for March and April. These meet
ings are scheduled for:\n\nMarch 19\, 2024\, Larry J. Horner will be prese
nting the Intel Roadmap that has led to ‘Five Nodes in 4 Years\, today t
here is more to a CPU than just cores’. See more details below:\n\nApril
16\, 2024\, we will be again at the UT Dallas SPN.1\, the topic will be a
nnounced shortly.\n\nFor May we are considering a social activity\, tentat
ively a Friday evening of AA Baseball with the Frisco Roughriders. Watch y
our email for a poll. We need a good head count for planning purposes.\n\n
 Tuesday\, March 19\, 2024\, 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at UT Dallas SPN.1\n\nTopi
c: Intel advancing 5 Nodes in 4 Years\, today there is more to a CPU than
just cores.\n\nSpeaker Bio: Larry Horner is a Senior Life member of IEEE\,
the IEEE CVT chair\, Senior Solution Architect and Principal Engineer at
Intel. He has been co-chair of the IEEE ComSoc NFV/SDN conference for 7 ye
ars and has spent nearly 40 years in the Telco industry\, holding multiple
U.S. Patents. He is also lead co-author of the book ‘Virtualizing 5G an
d Beyond 5G Mobile Network’.\n\nAbstract: Everyone should be familiar wi
th the concept of ‘Moore’s law’. Intel in the past three years has b
een on a torrid pace to build 5 nodes in four years. In addition to the ge
ometry reduction in these nodes\, there have been significant design innov
ations to further advance the state of the art of the world’s most advan
 ce manufacturing process\, building semiconductor-based CPU’s. From AI i
nnovations to advances in architecture for special functions like vRAN acc
eleration in the CPU architecture\, to innovations like Power-Via\, and un
core power management\, this talk will span these innovations as the node
architecture moved from 10nm to the 18A (angstrom) era with 14A on the hor
izon.\n\nParking passes will be available to those that register\, and lun
ch for a fee.\n\n*** RSVP required to reserve lunch.\n\nLunch is available
starting at 11:30 am.\n\nYou do not need to be an IEEE member to attend t

nIEEE Member $10.00 $20.00\nIEEE Senior Member $10.00 $20.00\nIEEE Life Me
 mber $5.00 $15.00\nNon-member $20.00 $25.00\n\nPlease look for your specif
ic Member type in Payment portion of Registration process (Life\, Senior\,
Regular Member\, etc.).\n\n(First 5 Students who have registered in vTool
s as recorded within vTools date/time stamp on the registration will be gi
ven their $5 back at the event\, provided they attend)\, also all students
must show UT Dallas ID at the desk the day of the meetings.\n\nRoom: 2.22
